December 15th 2018 Rhagfyr 15ed

Dear Parents / Carers,

A week to go and despite the mayhem, it is a very special time of year.  The snow has of course added some additional drama to the festive period and while it was fun in lots of ways, I'd like to thank the school community for their co-operation in helping to manage the hazards involved.

Annwyl Rieni / Gwarchodwyr,

Gyda wythnos i fynd, er y prysurdeb, mae'n gyfnod arbennig iawn.  Mae'r eira wedi ychwanegu at y drama wrth gwrs a tra roedd yn llawer o hwyl, rwy'n ddiolchgar i bawb am eu cydweithrediad yn helpu i reoli y peryglon amrywiol.

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Twitter – Issues with the recent weather, highlighted further what a useful resource twitter is for sharing information.  We are adding to our followers each week, so if you don't yet follow us, please do so in order for you to be kept up to date with all activities, particularly if there is news we need to get out there as a matter of urgency. @rhosstreet

Infants' Concert - The three performances of The Sleepy Shepherd went down a treat.  Huge thanks go to the pupils for providing the entertainment.  I'd also like to thank Mrs Liddy and her team of Foundation Phase staff and to the Giggles team for their hard work preparing the concerts.  The final performance was particularly poignant, as it was the final Xmas concert ever to be held at the current Rhos Street site.  Well done to everybody concerned.

Thank You Waterco - Chromebook Appeal – You will be aware having seen the PTAs letter this week, that they have been instrumental in raising money to buy a set of Chromebooks that will be with us in the New Year.  Additionally, an appeal was made to any local businesses to sponsor a Chromebook for £200 and we were delighted to hear from Waterco, who kindly volunteered to do so.  We are very grateful for this wonderful gesture and if any other local businesses want to become involved in our venture, then please do get in touch.

Juniors' Concert Arrangements – We have a dress rehearsal on Monday afternoon, so please could you ensure that all items of costume are in school on Monday morning. The concerts once again take place at Ruthin school. The first public performance will be on Tuesday afternoon at 1.30pm.  Contributions are requested on the door, with no advance tickets sold.  The evening performance will begin at 6pm, but we request that the pupils arrive by 5.30pm. Parking is at a premium at the site, so if you are able to walk the children, then that would be useful. The PTA will provide refreshments and there will be a raffle, which will be drawn during the interval.

Xmas Jumpers - Christmas Jumper Day was as colourful as ever. The contributions will go to Save the Children and seeing all the outfits has made everybody feel really Christmassy.

Christmas Choir Arrangements – Having had a couple of recent 'gigs' cancelled, the Christmas Choir will sing once again next week.  On Wednesday, we will take them down to Tesco at 1pm, before they sing again in the PTA Fair later the same afternoon.  We have also provisionally been invited to sing in Costa at the end of next week and I will provide further details when I have them.

PTA Film Morning – On Wednesday morning, as a special treat, the PTA will hold a film morning for the pupils.  Thanks once again to them for their ongoing support to the school.

Christmas Fair – On Wednesday afternoon, as you will have seen from the letter sent out this week, the Fair has been scaled down and rescheduled for Wednesday afternoon from 2.30-4pm.  The pupils will be given the chance to sell their wares from their class stalls and we will hold the raffle and sing as outlined above.

Outstanding Monies – Could all outstanding dinner money and music lesson payments be settled on Monday please.  Paying on Monday will assist us in completing all administrative tasks before the end of term.  Many thanks.

Logo Consultation – Our pupils are being involved in a very important task at the end of this term, to help finalise the new Rhos Street Logo.  You will recall that months ago, the pupils were asked to share ideas on what they thought the logo should depict and the hills, castle and church featured strongly.  They are discussing their favourites from the ideas submitted and in the New Year, we will be delighted to share their final decisions with you!

Reading Club – No reading club next week.

Infant Christmas Parties – These take place on Tuesday next week!

Xmas Lunch - The canteen was a very busy place yesterday, as scores of Xmas Dinners were served by Lyn and her team.  Thank to them for the lovely meal.  It was, as ever a very festive occasion!

December 8th 2017 Rhagfyr 8fed

Dear Parents,

Snow – There has been much excitement today as the snow has fallen. More is forecast and of course, we will have to see how that affects us moving into next week.  Twitter will keep you updated.

Xmas Dinner – The pupils will enjoy their Christmas lunch next Thursday, 14th December.  In order for the canteen to have correct numbers in advance, please inform us and pay on Monday.  Many thanks.

Parking – I have been contacted by a local resident asking for parents to park respectfully outside homes around the school.  Please help us maintain good relations by conforming to this request.

Christmas Choir – This weekend our choir sings again. On Saturday, could we meet at Llys Marchan for 11.55, to sing at 12pm please.  Pupils can wear own clothes.  On Sunday, we sing at the Rotary Concert in St. Peter's Church.  Please be there by 5.45pm in school uniform.  If there are any changes to the above arrangements due to the weather, then I will update via twitter.  Thank you to the pupils and parents supporting our choir.

Glasdir – Members of the School Council have visited the Glasdir site over the last week to have a sneak preview of how the building is progressing.  I think they were suitably impressed!

PTA Fair – Due to the weather, we have unfortunately had to postpone the PTA Xmas Fair.  We will endeavour to reschedule in some form before the end of term.

Xmas Jumper Day – As is traditional every year, we will be taking part in this event once again and next Friday, pupils can pay a pound to come to school in a Christmas Jumper. Money raised goes towards Save the Children.

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Dear Parents / Annwyl Rieni,

Pentrellyncymer - The kids were brilliant in Pentrellyncymer and deserve huge praise, as do Mrs Lewis and Leanne for the fantastic pastoral care of every single one of them. A big thank you too to the education centre once again for the wonderful experiences.

Family Service – A big thank you to Year 5 for their very enjoyable Family Service this morning.  They shared a very strong message about the benefits of a positive growth mindset.  Thanks also to Mrs Davies for her hard work preparing the children and parents for their support today.

PTA - A big thank you to everyone for the donations towards the Christmas Fair which is next Friday, 8th December, from 3.30-6pm. Free entry and everyone welcome! If anyone can help with the Fair, please email Please get your Christmas Family Photo orders in ASAP. As well as prints, you can receive your photo by email. And finally, keep your bids coming in for the Silent Auction. There are some great items on the list, so grab yourself a bargain! See the attached poster regarding the fair.

Xmas Choir – We sing tomorrow in Ruthin and will be grateful for the attendance of your child.  Could we meet at 3.45pm outside the church. Christmassy clothes encouraged!   Many thanks.

Thank You – Thank you to the PTA who have funded the repair of some iPad screens as well as cases for every one of them.

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Dear Parents / Carers,

Black Friday is here, so I'm sure Xmas shopping is at the forefront of most thoughts at the moment.  The Xmas cogs are turning here in school, as I'm sure you've noticed.  Year 4 have their visit to Pentre next week and Year 5 had a great day in Brynhyfryd, so there's been excitement all round!

Annwyl Rieni / Gwarchodwyr,

Mae 'Black Friday' yma, felly bydd siopa 'Dolig yn flaenllaw ar feddyliau.  Mae olwynion Nadoligaidd yn troi yma yn yr ysgol ac mae tripiau Blwyddyn 4 i Bentre a Blwyddyn 5 i Frynhyfryd wedi ychwanegu at y cynnwrf.

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Giggles - If you quote Giggles at then you'll be able to raise money for our pre-school group via your Xmas shopping. Thank you.

Health and Safety Issues – A couple of issues have been brought to my attention.  Firstly, can I ask parents not to use the staff car park to drop off the children in the mornings as Pen Barras children access the canteens before school and the increased traffic adds the risk to their welfare.  Additionally, could all Infant pupils be walked into the building and upstairs to attend Breakfast Club.  Many thanks.

Xmas Choir – Please refer to the letter sent out this week for details of our choir performance in the run up to Xmas.  The more the merrier!

Pentrellyncymer – Good luck to Year 4 in Pentre next week.  Fingers are crossed for dry weather.  Keep an eye on twitter for updates!

Cardiff Trip – Letters have been sent home regarding the 2018 Cardiff visit for Year 6.  Please send in the reply slip and deposit as soon as possible if interested.

Year 5 Family Service – Next Friday, will see Year 5 deliver their Family Service at 9am. Parents and relatives welcome.

Entrepeneurship -Each class has been planning and costing a financial project to make a profit. The entrepreneurs in Year 4 have had a special production line running this week, preparing goods to be put on sale in the PTA Xmas Fair on December 8th. I look forward to see what each class has to sell on the day!

PTA Xmas Photos - Please see the attached poster for details of the PTA Xmas Photos which are available for you to view and order.

Brynhyfryd Year 5  Transition Visit – Year 5 had a great day yesterday at the art and technology departments of Ysgol Brynhyfryd in a transition project which has been launched by the Secondary School in conjunction with the Feeder Primaries.  They said, "Thank you very much to you, your staff and students. The pupils were fantastic and were a credit to your school and I hope they enjoyed the activities." We are grateful to Ysgol Brynhyfryd for providing this opportunity.

Glasdir Visit – The School Council have received a formal invitation from the Charman of the County Council to visit the Glasdir site next Friday.

Lost Property – Ella has lost a plastic bag with a pair of jeans ripped at the knee inside plus a t-shirt.  If anybody has it or knows where it is, please pass it on to us.

PTA Xmas Competition – Please also see the attached poster, regarding the competition to design the cover of the Juniors Xmas Concert programme.

Shoctober - Our Shoctober day on Monday was a great success, raising nearly £400 towards our defibrillator.  During the day Years 4, 5 and 6 were trained in CPR and the work by everybody involved over the last few weeks has made many heads turn.  Well done all! Thank you to Tomos and the Achub Calon y Dyffryn team.

Operation Christmas Child – You will have received a letter this week from the School Council's Chairperson, Ruby Mann regarding their wish to take part in this year's Operation Christmas Child initiative.  This is one we have supported many times in the past and we ask that all boxes are sent to school by November 14th.

Administration of Medicine – As a result of a new Managing Healthcare policy introduced by Denbighshire County Council for schools to adopt, a new medication form has been developed that must be filled if you wish the school to administer any medication for your child.  A copy is now available on the website's downloads section for you to print and fill in the details.  I'm afraid we will not be able to administer any medicine, unless the form has been filled.

October 13th / Hydref 13eg

Dear Parents / Carers,

The weather may have put paid to the cross country, but did not deter us as we walked to church today for our Harvest service.  It's always so positive walking up en masse to church and be welcomed so warmly by so many of the school community.

Annwyl Rieni / Gwarchodwyr,

Er fod y tywydd wedi dod a'r traws gwlad i ben, doedd y glaw ddim wedi ein rhwystro ar ein taith i'r eglwys heddiw.  Mae wastad yn bositif gweld yr ysgol yn cerdded gyda'u gilydd drwy Rhuthun a cael croeso mawr yn yr eglwys.

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Harvest - We had a lovely service this morning in St. Peter's Church, with all classes performing items of charm and quality. The staff's hard work in preparing the pupils was rewarded. Thank you for the donations to the Ruthin food bank and for the help walking the children to and from church.

Jamboree - The Foundation Phase had a great time at the Jamboree earlier this week, singing a series of Welsh songs with all the local schools in attendance.

Anti-Bullying Workshop - Some members of our School Council got to visit Denbigh High this week and take part in a special anti-bullying workshop. They now have ideas regarding what type of activities they could lead during anti-bullying week which takes place later this term.

Superhero Headquarters - Class 1's Superhero Headquarters looks like a great place to try out your superpowers!

Nursery Biscuits - The Nursery Class have been making biscuits as part of their 'myself' project.

Shoctober – On the 23rd October, we will be holding our Shoctober event to raise money for a defibrillator.  On that day, pupils can pay a £1 to wear own clothes, can buy cakes and also soak me if they wish (but will have to pay 50p for the privilege!)

£1 Coins – As the old pound coin will no longer be legal tender, from now on we will be unable to accept them in the office.

Cross Country – This week's event was scuppered by the weather.  It will hopefully be rescheduled for after half term.

Parents' Evening – You should have received appointment times for the parental consultations next week.

Cycle Experience – Year 6 will take their cycling proficiency course next week.  I'm sure the sessions will be of great benefit.

Year 6 Family Service – This will be held on Wednesday at 9am.  Parents and relatives welcome.

From the start of next term, it will take place on Wednesday lunchtimes starting on November 8th. Children can wear their P.E. kits and will dance bare foot. If any new dancers would like to join they are welcome to start dance next term (Year 3 and up).

Media Stars! – Ruby and Jocelyn both did fantastically well this week on BBC Radio and S4C respectively, talking about our Shoctober campaign. This coverage has really promoted the video which has now been seen thousands of times.  Take a look at our Just Giving page with full details of the initiative and its background and of course an opportunity for any donations to be given.

Last Week's Achievers

Students of the week were: Azam, Isabella, Noah, Holly, Isaac, Megan, Joseph, Kaden, Oliver, Caitlin, Lottie and Flo. Welsh awards: Molly, Iwan, Jos, Alex, Josh. Swimming: Charlie. Tae Kwon-do: Evie and Thomas and Rugby to Elliot.  Well done to all!

Sinfonia – Three pupils played in a very special concert in St. Asaph last weekend. Steffi, Illy and Lottie played Vaughan Williams Concerto Grossa and later got to meet Ye-En Choi, who was a soloist on stage.

Family Service – Year 6's Family Service has been rescheduled for October 18th.

Jamboree – The Foundation Phase are very much looking forward to attending the annual Jamboree at Ysgol Brynhyfryd on Monday.  They'll be singing those Welsh songs with enthusiasm.

Harvest - Once again we will be holding our Harvest Festival Service at St Peter's Church.  It will take place on Friday October 13th at 9.30am.  We will be practising in church on the Thursday morning at 9.30am. On both occasions, we would be grateful of parental help in walking the children to St. Peter's Church and back.  On both mornings, we will leave school at 9.15pm. We are also collecting food donations for the Ruthin Food Bank, so would be grateful if they could be brought to school on the Thursday morning.  Please let your child's class teacher know if you are willing to help walk the children.

Cross Country – This takes place after school next Thursday.  A separate letter will be sent home to interested competitors.

PTA – Please see the attached posters regarding two forthcoming events; the Halloween Disco and the Auction of Promises.

Medical Forms – Medical Forms have been sent home for you to fill and sign.  Please sign and return them even if your child has no medical needs that we need to be made aware of.  Many thanks.

Sickness Bugs – While we always promote, encourage and praise good attendance, may I also remind you of the need to keep your child off school for 48 hours after vomiting.  Many thanks.

Procedures for speaking to teaching staff  - As you are aware, we have an open door policy and are happy to speak to parents about any issues to do with the pupils whenever convenient.  However, may I ask that parents do not go directly into classrooms unannounced to speak with teachers in the mornings.  If there is a reason that you need to speak to a teacher, please either approach one of the Breakfast Club staff, call in at reception or see Mrs Liddy downstairs to see if it is convenient for you to be speak with a staff member and we can arrange for you to be seen promptly, if your child's class teacher is available.

North East Wales Rugby – Congratulations to Reuben, Raif and Matthew, who after attending trials, have been selected for the North East Wales Rugby squad.  A fine achievement!

Alex Carter, guitar tutor, also encouraged our pupils to take up the guitar.  He gave a marvellous demonstration of his guitar playing and spoke about the opportunities involved.  We offer instrumental tuition on a number of instruments and last term, those who have been learning got to show off their skills in a lovely concert.  We also had success in the Urdd Eisteddfod on clarinet, brass and string, so it would be great to build on the huge strides made last year, by having an enthusiastic crew of instrumentalists at the school this academic year.

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome to another new academic year; a year in which I'm sure will see us all continue to work together in partnership successfully. I hope you have had a good Summer and have enjoyed holidays, visits and activities. As I traditionally ask in this first newsletter, please take a moment to read the information below, to help ensure that all runs smoothly here from the outset.  I look forward to a busy and successful year here at Rhos Street School and wish the children well as they embrace new challenges and opportunities. It is sure to be an historic year as we move to the new site, so there are exciting times ahead.

Annwyl Rieni / Gwarchodwyr,

Croeso i'r flwyddyn academaidd newydd.  Mi fydd yn flwyddyn lle rwy'n siŵr y byddem i gyd yn gweithio gyda'n gilydd mewn partneriaeth er lles ein disgyblion. Gobeithio eich bod wedi mwynhau'r gwyliau. Cymerwch eiliad i ddarllen y wybodaeth isod, er mwyn helpu i sicrhau bod popeth yn rhedeg yn esmwyth o'r cychwyn cyntaf. Rwy'n edrych ymlaen at flwyddyn brysur a llwyddiannus yma yn Ysgol Stryd y Rhos ac yn dymuno'n dda i'r plant, wrth iddynt gymryd mantais or sialensau a'r cyfleoedd o'u blaenau. Mae cyffro symud I'r safle newydd o'n Blaenau mewn blwyddyn hanesyddol.

Yours sincerely,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Our first Students of the Week are Sofia, Mia, Ella-May, Beau, Ben, Laci, Seren, Georgia and Lily.  Emma received a Grade 1 Flute certificate and James and Holly Wave 2 swimming certificates.

Summer Reading Challenge - There are still some pupils who have not completed / started the challenge; however it's not too late, as the initiative does not finish for a little while yet. I am very eager for all pupils to complete the challenge, so ask for your support in ensuring that this is the case.  This year, medals and certificates are handed out at the library on completion of the challenge. Please send in all certificates next Friday for a group photo!

New Staff - A warm welcome to our new teachers who have joined us this term. Miss Jade Bevan is the new Year 1 teacher, while Mrs Mari Lewis has replaced Mrs Baker in Year 4.  Both are already proving to be fine additions to the Rhos Street team.

Lines of Communication – If you wish to receive the newsletter by email, then please let me know.  Parents of all Nursery pupils and new pupils should have received forms for them to specify how they would like to receive the newsletter. Remember that all the school's news and more can be found by logging on the school website at, Up to date snippets and photos, as well as general nonsense can also be accessed by following our Twitter account Photographs of activities can also be viewed on our Flickr page through a link on the website's homepage. The PTA Facebook page is another source of important information.

PE Kit and School Uniform - May I please remind pupils that the Rhos Street PE kit is a plain white t-shirt, black shorts, black/white/grey socks, 'subtly' coloured trainers for Juniors and pumps for Infants.  Black tracksuit bottoms are permitted in colder weather. Please ensure that your child complies with this uniform. Could you also ensure that pupils' names are written/sewn onto school uniform, so that we can return any misplaced garments to the correct owner. Finally, may I also remind pupils that jewellery and nail varnish are not permitted.  Once again, I ask for parental support in ensuring that the pupils comply with these wishes.  Many thanks.

Medical Information – If there is any medical information that you need to share with us regarding your child, then please do so, as a matter of urgency, so that we may update our records.

Personal Information & Contact Details – If you have recently changed your address, mobile telephone number or any other details, could you please inform us, so that we may update our records accordingly.  Many thanks.

A Healthy School - We strive to promote healthy eating and make our school ever healthier.  We do not permit children to eat crisps, sweets, chocolates or biscuits during break times. Snacks offered to them in school will be a range of healthy balanced snacks, as will be the case in Breakfast Club.  Children are also encouraged to bring healthy foods in their lunchboxes.  I'd be grateful for your co-operation in helping us to promote the well-being of pupils in this way.

Annual Report Feedback Sheet - If you have not yet done so, could you please fill and sign your child's report feedback sheet and return it to school next week.

Dinner Money – Could all dinner money please be sent to school in advance on a Monday in a clearly labelled envelope.  As advised at the end of last term, the cost has increased as of this September to £2.10 per day.

Attendance Procedures - As a school, we are committed to working with and assisting parents in promoting the regular and punctual attendance of all pupils.  Denbighshire Council are committed to implementing a consistent county wide policy for attendance.  Absences for sickness upwards of 10 days will trigger a support process. Absences are of course fully authorised if your child is genuinely unwell. There are also special circumstances for absence, which if appropriate, we are of course happy to authorise. If your child is ill, please inform us on the day by email, or telephone call. If we have not been notified why your child is absent, for safeguarding purposes, we will telephone to confirm.  Each absence needs to be explained in full; otherwise it will go on record as being unauthorised.

Denbighshire has also decided that holiday absence is no longer authorised.  Unauthorised absences upwards from 5 days, will trigger a warning letter and upwards of 10 days may invoke a fixed penalty notice.  If you do decide to take your child out of school, please call in the office for an absence request form. Please see the attached Denbighshire letter.

Punctuality – Also, as part of the ongoing priority of improving attendance, we are turning our focus on encouraging parents to make every effort in ensuring their children are punctual and are on the yard to line up at 9am each morning, in order to avoid disruption to theirs and other children's education.  I hope that we can count on your support in achieving this end at the beginning of the new academic year.  I also wish to clarify that in order to ensure consistency, the Denbighshire policy is that latecomers will marked late up to 9.30am.  However at 9.30am, the registers close and children arriving late after this time will be marked absent on the register.

Giggles - Giggles Daycare has availability offering affordable rates of childcare. Giggles is open from 8.30am - 11.30am at £10 and a full day to 3.15pm for £20.

After School Club is available for all children aged from 3 years at the cost of £5.00 per hour.

There is funding available for 3 year olds to attend for free (conditions apply), to encourage more children to attend pre-school to improve their socialisation and learning.

Vaccination Forms – Could parents of Reception, Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 children please ensure they fill and return the vaccination consent forms promptly. An immunisation program will take place on Monday 16th October. Could we receive them by Friday 22nd September please.

PTA AGM – This will be held on Tuesday 12th September at 3.30pm in Class 1. All members of the school community are welcome to join us.

From Mrs Baker – "I'd like to send a heartfelt thank you to all staff, parents, Governors and children of Rhos Street School for all the cards, gifts and best wishes for my retirement.  I was overwhelmed and would like to wish everyone all the very best for the future."

Dear Parents / Carers,

Half term is here and I hear rain is forecast! Have a great week all and special good luck wishes to our Urdd competitors next week in Bridgend. Let's hope it's dry there as Eisteddfod fields can get very boggy.  After a week away, hopefully the fidget spinner fad will be starting to burn out!

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

The events in Manchester have of course been very sobering.  Our non uniform day and minutes silence have given the children a chance to reflect and some pupils have asked questions in school which we have endeavoured to deal with sensitively.  Some of your children may also be asking questions at home and this is completely natural.  This video by Newsround is a good basis for any discussions you may have.

Reading Club – Mrs Liddy's Reading Club resumes after half term.

Dodgeball – The next half-term starts with our inaugural dodgeball tournament!

Rotary Spring Festival – There is a cupcake competition for Children in this event.  See the poster on our twitter account for further details

Family Service - Class 1 gave us a fantastic Family Service on a pirate theme.  Thank you to them all.  I'd also like to thank Mrs Bourne and her team of staff for their efforts.  The hall was full and it's great to see so much parental support.

Ty Gobaith - Daniel and Nathaniel who won their races in the Pancake Race, passed on the total collected to Ty Gobaith in a ceremony at St. Peter's Church last week.  Eluned spoke to the children in Monday's Assembly about their work and Year 6 have been selling wristbands this week, in aid of this very worthwhile charity.

Glasdir Presentation - The children were given a presentation last week by Wynne Constriuction about the health and safety issues at the build that have to be considered before the site opens for business after February half term next year.

Achievers- Students of the week are all of class 1, Ben, Kieran, Alexandros, Tyler, Eszter and Nurten. Sam was awarded a rugby trophy, Alys, Daniel and Gabriella swimming certificates, James scout badges and Flo a triathlon medal.

Glasdir Progress – The new Rhos Street School is taking shape.  Keep an eye on our twitter account for ongoing photographs.  Thank you to those who are sending them to us.

Ruthin Festival – On Monday June 26th, the Ruthin Festival Children's Concert will take place with us singing some rock choir songs.  Hopefully we will have a big representation of pupils.

May 19th / Mai 19fed

Dear Parents / Carers,

Race for Life – Thank you to the School Council for organising this week's Race for Life and to Miss Davies for co-ordinating it all.  We are raising a significant amount of money and the total is still going up.  We are grateful for the support. We are also grateful for the PTA's efforts, providing refreshments and to Anna for her fundraising also.

Achievers – Students of the Week were Kemal, Dean, Leo, Freya and Oliver.  Welsh awards went to Matthew, Faye and Hannah.  Connie was awarded a certificate for climbing Snowdon.  Kian and Kieron received martial arts belts each.

Wynne Construction – This afternoon, the pupils were given a presentation from the construction company responsible for delivering the new school.

Ty Gobaith – Nathaniel and Daniel joined me in St. Peter's Church today, as the parish passed on the total collected in this year's Pancake Races. Ty Gobaith will also attend school to deliver an assembly on their work next week.

Social Media Pictures – As a school, we seek parental permission to use images of our pupils.  May I please ask however, if you are taking photographs of school activities and posting to social media, that you ensure you have the permission from parents of any identifiable pupils in the image.  Many thanks.

£5 Notes – Please do not send in any of the old £5 notes as payment from now on, as they are no longer legal tender.  Many thanks.

Yours sincerely,

Bryn D. Jones

May 12th / Mai 12fed

Dear Parents / Carers,

Friday again and the rain arrives just in time for the weekend. Let's hope the sun returns!

Annwyl Rieni / Gwarchodwyr,

Dydd Gwener ac mae'n glawio. Gobeithio ddaw yr haul yn ol!

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Brass Presentation - We were treated to a lively brass and percussion presentation by Mr Powell and Mr Neale today.  It was enthusiastically received and we thank them for their time.  Soon it will be time to register interest for next year's music lessons, so the session gave food for thought I'm sure.

eSafety Group – Our eSafety group met this week, to discuss how to promote our forthcoming parental internet safety session.  Watch this space!

Glasdir Presentation – Next Friday, Wynne Constructions will speak to the pupils about health and safety aspects of the new school site.

PTA Quiz – Thank you to those who supported our PTA Quiz. It was a great evening.  The staff team came away with honour intact (once the marks had been added up properly!) Huge thanks to Dan for being a great question master.

Race for Life - The School Council spoke to everybody this week about next week's Race for Life event.  Please refer to the letters sent home yesterday. Hopefully lots of money will be raised towards some good causes through this event.

Monday's Achievers - Students recognised on Monday were Abby for sailing, our mathematicians, Abbie for her walking efforts, as well as the RSS reps on Ruthin's rugby team, who won many games at a festival in Southport and also were recognised for sportsmanship. The impressive trophy was for teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.

Today's Achievers - Students of the Week were James, Beau, Mikolaj, Leo, Molly, Alys, Alex and Sam.  Welsh awards went to Nick, Indi and Lily.  Trystan and Georgia received swimming certificates, Jessica and Molly were recognised for Gymnastics, Leo for jujitsu and Mia for Rugby.  Well done to them all.

School Defibrilator – As a school, over the rest of this academic year, we will be looking to raise money to buy a defibrillator for the use of the local community. We wish to do this in the memory of Michael Hartshorne, father of Kaden, who so tragically passed away last year.  The money we hope will be a team effort with the school, PTA, pupils and the local community contributing. A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart to someone who is in cardiac arrest. This high energy shock is called defibrillation, and the use of such devices have saved many lives sice becoming available for the public to use.

Dear Parents / Carers,

Play in a Day - Jeff visited again this week and worked with Year 5 in selecting, learning, rehearsing and finally performing an adaptation of Macbeth; all in a single day!.  It was a real achievement and the Year 5 pupils responded brilliantly, giving an entertaining performance to pupils and parents.

PTA Quiz – Don't forget the quiz tonight at the Feathers.  7pm.

National Tests – With just Years 4 and 5 left to take their reading paper, the tests are nearly over. I am proud of the way the pupils showed great concentration and effort in a mature way, with little fuss and hopefully as little stress as possible.  I'm sure they'll all be relieved to get them out of the way!

Wrexham FC – The after school sessions resume on Monday the 8th May.

Tempest Photography – The orders have now been sent off, but are still available to purchase online if you wish.

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,
