Leavers' Service - My thanks also go to Year 6 for a wonderful Leavers' Service.  Best wishes to them as they move on to Secondary school.  Thank you to Mr Davies for preparing them so well.  Take a look at Flickr for photos of the event.

Some Goodbyes – As well as our Year 6 pupils, we say goodbye to a couple of staff members.  Mrs. Baker leaves us after many years of wonderful service to the school and its community.  She has been a dedicated teacher, a committed colleague, a supporter of the school and a great friend.  She will be sorely missed and I'd like to thank her on behalf of everyone, for what she has given to Rhos Street School. We also bid goodbye to Jane Hughes, who has been supporting in the Foundation Phase for the last couple of years. We thank her for her service and wish her well in her new job.

Music Showcase – Thank you for the support and the lovely feedback after the Musical Showcase event in school last week.  It was a delight to have all our musicians performing and to see the rock choir go through their songs.  Thanks to the PTA for providing refreshments.

Dinners- From September, the cost of school lunches will increase to £2.10

Neuroblastoma – Our Football Shirt Friday last week raised £153 for this worthwhile and topical charity.  Thank you for the support.

PTA – At the end of the year – another big thank you goes to the PTA for their efforts this year.  Please put the 11th November in your diaries as the date for a forthcoming fund-raising evening, which will include a live band, gourmet burgers and an Auction of Promises.  We hope, that as well as being a fun evening, it will also raise the funds needed for our new Chromebooks. It is to be held at the Rugby Club, Ruthin. If you would like to donate a promise to be auctioned on the night, please contact Julie Starling (Jessica's mum year 2) or another member of the PTA. A promise could be anything from cleaning windows, baking a birthday cake, being a Taxi to the airport or offering a night in your holiday cottage. No promise can be too small or too big...!!

Reading Challenge – Information about this Summer's Reading Challenge has been sent home.  Please encourage your child to complete the challenge and to read as much as possible over the holidays.  Thank you.

Mayoral Visit - The Mayor visited, bringing us the good news that Jessica's letter requesting the Town Council funded the cost of a box to house the new debrifilator was met with an affirmative answer.  We are grateful to Jessica for sorting this and to the Mayor for the support.

Forest School - The Year 2 pupils really enjoyed their recent Forest Schools activities.  This week they made popcorn and also toasted marshmallows.

Clearout – We have taken advantage of the opportunity to begin preparing for next year's move, by sorting out and throwing away what we don't anticipate taking with us.  Between ourselves and Pen Barras we have managed to sling a lot of stuff!

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

The events in Manchester have of course been very sobering.  Our non uniform day and minutes silence have given the children a chance to reflect and some pupils have asked questions in school which we have endeavoured to deal with sensitively.  Some of your children may also be asking questions at home and this is completely natural.  This video by Newsround is a good basis for any discussions you may have. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/13865002

Reading Club – Mrs Liddy's Reading Club resumes after half term.

Dodgeball – The next half-term starts with our inaugural dodgeball tournament!

Rotary Spring Festival – There is a cupcake competition for Children in this event.  See the poster on our twitter account for further details

Family Service - Class 1 gave us a fantastic Family Service on a pirate theme.  Thank you to them all.  I'd also like to thank Mrs Bourne and her team of staff for their efforts.  The hall was full and it's great to see so much parental support.

Ty Gobaith - Daniel and Nathaniel who won their races in the Pancake Race, passed on the total collected to Ty Gobaith in a ceremony at St. Peter's Church last week.  Eluned spoke to the children in Monday's Assembly about their work and Year 6 have been selling wristbands this week, in aid of this very worthwhile charity.

Glasdir Presentation - The children were given a presentation last week by Wynne Constriuction about the health and safety issues at the build that have to be considered before the site opens for business after February half term next year.

Achievers- Students of the week are all of class 1, Ben, Kieran, Alexandros, Tyler, Eszter and Nurten. Sam was awarded a rugby trophy, Alys, Daniel and Gabriella swimming certificates, James scout badges and Flo a triathlon medal.

Glasdir Progress – The new Rhos Street School is taking shape.  Keep an eye on our twitter account for ongoing photographs.  Thank you to those who are sending them to us.

Ruthin Festival – On Monday June 26th, the Ruthin Festival Children's Concert will take place with us singing some rock choir songs.  Hopefully we will have a big representation of pupils.

May 19th / Mai 19fed

Dear Parents / Carers,

Race for Life – Thank you to the School Council for organising this week's Race for Life and to Miss Davies for co-ordinating it all.  We are raising a significant amount of money and the total is still going up.  We are grateful for the support. We are also grateful for the PTA's efforts, providing refreshments and to Anna for her fundraising also.

Achievers – Students of the Week were Kemal, Dean, Leo, Freya and Oliver.  Welsh awards went to Matthew, Faye and Hannah.  Connie was awarded a certificate for climbing Snowdon.  Kian and Kieron received martial arts belts each.

Wynne Construction – This afternoon, the pupils were given a presentation from the construction company responsible for delivering the new school.

Ty Gobaith – Nathaniel and Daniel joined me in St. Peter's Church today, as the parish passed on the total collected in this year's Pancake Races. Ty Gobaith will also attend school to deliver an assembly on their work next week.

Social Media Pictures – As a school, we seek parental permission to use images of our pupils.  May I please ask however, if you are taking photographs of school activities and posting to social media, that you ensure you have the permission from parents of any identifiable pupils in the image.  Many thanks.

£5 Notes – Please do not send in any of the old £5 notes as payment from now on, as they are no longer legal tender.  Many thanks.

Yours sincerely,

Bryn D. Jones

Headteacher / Pennaeth

May 12th / Mai 12fed

Dear Parents / Carers,

Friday again and the rain arrives just in time for the weekend. Let's hope the sun returns!

Annwyl Rieni / Gwarchodwyr,

Dydd Gwener ac mae'n glawio. Gobeithio ddaw yr haul yn ol!

Yours sincerely / Yn gywir,

Bryn D. Jones, Headteacher / Pennaeth

Brass Presentation - We were treated to a lively brass and percussion presentation by Mr Powell and Mr Neale today.  It was enthusiastically received and we thank them for their time.  Soon it will be time to register interest for next year's music lessons, so the session gave food for thought I'm sure.

eSafety Group – Our eSafety group met this week, to discuss how to promote our forthcoming parental internet safety session.  Watch this space!

Glasdir Presentation – Next Friday, Wynne Constructions will speak to the pupils about health and safety aspects of the new school site.

PTA Quiz – Thank you to those who supported our PTA Quiz. It was a great evening.  The staff team came away with honour intact (once the marks had been added up properly!) Huge thanks to Dan for being a great question master.

Race for Life - The School Council spoke to everybody this week about next week's Race for Life event.  Please refer to the letters sent home yesterday. Hopefully lots of money will be raised towards some good causes through this event.

Monday's Achievers - Students recognised on Monday were Abby for sailing, our mathematicians, Abbie for her walking efforts, as well as the RSS reps on Ruthin's rugby team, who won many games at a festival in Southport and also were recognised for sportsmanship. The impressive trophy was for teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.

Today's Achievers - Students of the Week were James, Beau, Mikolaj, Leo, Molly, Alys, Alex and Sam.  Welsh awards went to Nick, Indi and Lily.  Trystan and Georgia received swimming certificates, Jessica and Molly were recognised for Gymnastics, Leo for jujitsu and Mia for Rugby.  Well done to them all.

School Defibrilator – As a school, over the rest of this academic year, we will be looking to raise money to buy a defibrillator for the use of the local community. We wish to do this in the memory of Michael Hartshorne, father of Kaden, who so tragically passed away last year.  The money we hope will be a team effort with the school, PTA, pupils and the local community contributing. A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart to someone who is in cardiac arrest. This high energy shock is called defibrillation, and the use of such devices have saved many lives sice becoming available for the public to use.

May 5th / Mai 5ed

Dear Parents / Carers,

National Tests – With just Years 4 and 5 left to take their reading paper, the tests are nearly over. I am proud of the way the pupils showed great concentration and effort in a mature way, with little fuss and hopefully as little stress as possible.  I'm sure they'll all be relieved to get them out of the way!

Wrexham FC – The after school sessions resume on Monday the 8th May.

Tempest Photography – The orders have now been sent off, but are still available to purchase online if you wish.

Dear Parents / Carers,

Green School x 3 – The hard work of our pupils, staff, Governors, parents and community has once again been deservedly recognised this week, as the annual School Categorisation results were published.  For the third year since its inception, we have been awarded Green status and the image below highlights what that means.  We are very proud to have been able to maintain this top grading and are also eager to continue in the same vein going forward.

Dear Parents / Carers,

Let's hope a response to the advertised role of relief patroller is positive, so that trained, legally covered staff can undertake the role in future.

Urdd Eisteddfod 2017 - It's that time of year again.  All classes have been given a recitation piece to learn and we will need to confirm names over the next few days.  All competitors will need to pay the annual Urdd subscription, so we will try and get names sorted as soon as possible.  There will also be a recitation group and a dialogue team, so a busy time lies ahead. The Ruthin Eisteddfod takes place on March 4th, with the County event on April 1st.

Giggles – They have been learning all about China and its customs for Chinese New Year. For the celebration the children rolled 2 tangerines towards one another for luck They tried Chinese food and cakes. They performed a dragon dance in front of parents and friends and listened to a traditional tale of a mouse and the dragon.  The children received lucky red envelopes containing golden coins.

Chinese New Year Lunch - There was also a delicious Chinese lunch served in the canteen this week.  Thank you to the canteen staff for their efforts.

Dear Parents / Carers,

It's the end of another term, another year and I don't think anybody would argue that 2016 hasn't been a year full of momentous events.  We as a school, reflect positively however, on a year in which we have achieved much and are very proud of our pupils on many levels.  We all want the very best for Rhos Street and I'm sure everybody will continue to pull together in 2017 and beyond, with the aim of achieving exactly that.  Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year.  Enjoy the festivities, the food and of course the liquid refreshment.  While I look forward to seeing you all in January, I'm sure you'll forgive me in hoping the next fortnight doesn't go too quickly! Many thanks for your support, feedback and encouragement.  It is ever so much appreciated. Nadolig Llawen a Blwyddyn Newydd Dda i chi gyd!

Juniors' Concert - This week it was the Juniors' turn to entertain the masses and they did so in style.  Their concert was well received and I was very proud of them and grateful for the efforts of the staff in preparing them.  Thanks also to Mrs Parr for accompanying, Ruthin School for hosting and the PTA for providing refreshments.  Thanks also to for all the donations given by parents and relatives.

Pantomime - The school travelled en masse to the great town of Mold and visited Theatre Clwyd to see the pantomime.  The performance of Aladdin was enjoyed by all and we thank the PTA again for their help in funding this trip.  Typically, the delayed return was unfortunately compounded by the rain. I hope you all dried off quickly!

PE Young Ambassadors - Congratulation to James, Hannah, Faye and Sam who were selected as the school's PE Bronze Ambassadors following recent interviews.

Glasdir – I hope you have had the chance to digest the newsletter, outlining the delay to the new build and the school's subsequent response.  Any questions or concerns, please get in touch.

Goodbye to our students – Thanks to Miss. Sivill and Mr. Ellis-Williams for their contributions as students over the last few weeks.  We wish them well with their training and subsequent careers.

Glan Llyn (Year 3) – Could the remaining balance of £50 for the Year 3 Glan Llyn trip please be settled at the beginning of the new term.

Dear Parents / Carers,

Half term is upon us and we have much to share with you after a busy couple of weeks.  We look forward to welcoming everybody back on Tuesday, November 1st.

Annwyl Rieni / Gwarchodwyr,

Year 6 Family Service - Year 6 provided a very informative, lively and fascinating Family Service this morning on the theme of safety, culminating in an enthusiastic rendition of the Danger Mouse theme! Huge thanks to them and Mr Davis for their efforts.  Thanks also to parents and relatives for their attendance and support.

Pentrellyncymer - Year 4 had a lovely week in Pentrellyncymer.  They took part in a range of activities, from climbing to cycling, canoeing and bushcraft.  They left with many wonderful memories I'm sure and huge thanks go to Mrs Davies, Mrs Baker and Leanne for their time and dedication towards the children and their care.

PTA Message – The next PTA meeting will be on Thursday 10th November at 7pm in Wetherspoons. All welcome! The next event will be the Quiz Night, which we are jointly hosting with Giggles on Friday 25th November, with more details to follow after half-term.  We started taking Christmas photos this week and hope to finish the week after half term. These will be available to view and order once we have finished photographing and once again, details will follow after half term. Have a happy half term and see you all in November!

Year 3 Craft Centre Visit - Artist Luned Parry worked with Year 3 at the Craft Centre in Ruthin. The pupils were working on the theme of 'Functions' and made their own bowls and vases.  They will be available to view in an exhibition, opening at the centre in the next few weeks.

Parking around the school – It has been brought to my attention that some parents are leaving their cars in precarious places in the local residential areas, which is raising concerns about the safety of the children walking to and from school. Please park carefully in order to keep everybody safe.

Flickr – Our Flickr page should be updated with photos over the next few days, with lots of photos of recent activities added.

Goodbye Sylvia - We said a sad goodbye to Sylvia from the canteen today.  Many years of loyal service to the school come to an end.  We wish her every happiness in her retirement and sincerely thank her for her work over the years.  All the best Sylvia!

Aberfan - Today marked 50 years since the disaster that took the lives of 116 children and we remembered those affected in a minute's silence on the yard this morning.

Freya's Freedon – Love Luella Photography - Tash Jones is kindly holding mini photography sessions on 5th November, with 50% of the proceeds going directly to Freya's Freedom. Parents are today being given first reserve on places if they wish to take advantage of this offer. The sessions will be held on 5th November 2016 in Ruthin, with the exact location to be announced.

Sessions last 20 minutes for up to 4 people in an Autumn style, including 4 digital images via high res download.

Total cost £50.00 with a £20 part payment required to book.

Please contact loveluella@outlook.com if you are interested.

Urdd Football - Our footballers gave a very good account of themselves in the Urdd Tournament last week, winning three and losing three of their six games. They played with sportsmanship, effort and great team spirit.

Cross Country – The following pupils have qualified for the next round of the Cross Country. Years 3 and 4 - Christian, Morgan, Faye Hand, Georgia, Amelia & Emma Years 5 and 6 – Abby.

Family Learning - Parents of Reception and Nursery pupils have been invited to some special sessions on supporting learning provided by our Family Link Workers.  It seems they were very much enjoyed by all.

Achievers - Students of the week included Noah, Logan, Kieran, Alana, all of Year 4, Lily and all of Year 6.  Reuben received a rugby medal, Flo and Zoey karate certificates and red belts and Ben a swimming certificate.  Well done all.

PTA Halloween Disco - Our annual disco proved a big success once again with a profit of nearly £650 made! Many thanks to all concerned.  There was also a lot of fun to be had with pumpkins, costumes and silly games in between all the disco dancing.  The stalls were also very busy with lots of fun activities going on.  Huge thanks as ever to the PTA Committee!

Infants' Jamboree - Foundation Phase pupils had a fabulous time in the recent Jamboree at Brynhyfryd led by Martin Geraint.

Rugby – See the PTA Facebook Page and twitter for details about half term rugby activities held at Ysgol Brynhyfryd on Tuesday October 25th.

Harvest Service - The school community came together for a special Harvest Service at St. Peter's Church.  The children sang fantastically and the class items were warmly received.  Thank you for the donations to Ruthin Food Bank and also to those who helped walk the children to and from church.  Thanks to Mrs Parr and Rev. Stuart for their support too.

Healthy School Phase 5 - Paula Roberts, Healthy Schools co-ordinator, visited to present the School Council with the award for achieving Phase 5 of this scheme.  Thanks to Mrs Liddy for gathering and presenting the evidence and to the staff for providing it so readily.  Well done to the pupils for their positive attitudes towards health and wellbeing.

A Reminder of Attendance Procedures - As a school, we are committed to working with and assisting parents in promoting the regular and punctual attendance of all pupils.  Denbighshire Council are committed to implementing a consistent county wide policy for attendance.  Absences for sickness upwards of 10 days will trigger a support process. Absences are of course fully authorised if your child is genuinely unwell. There are also special circumstances for absence, which we will authorise. If your child is ill, please inform us on the day by email, or telephone call. If we have not been notified why your child is absent, for safeguarding purposes, we will telephone to confirm.  Each absence needs to be explained in full; otherwise it will go on record as being unauthorised.

Denbighshire schools also decided as a group, that holiday absence is no longer authorised.  Unauthorised absences upwards from 10 days can invoke a fixed penalty notice.  If you do decide to take your child out of school, please call in the office for an absence notification form.
