​Quest Seeker Awards

We were delighted to have around half the school presented with medals for their involvement in the local library’s ‘Quest Seekers’ reading challenge this summer.  It was very encouraging to see the pupils retained an interest in reading over the summer holidays and I very much hope that this enthusiasm continues. Llinos from the Library Service attended Monday’s assembly to present the medals. 

National Poetry Day

On National Poetry Day, the older children gave readings of their favourite poetry, while some of the younger ones recited poems to their peers.​



Children's Book Week - Year 2 Author Visit

Class 2 visited the library in Ruthin to meet author Penny Dolan.  She read some of her stories to the pupils, discussing the content, style and illustrations.  The children delighted her with their questions and their interest.


Children's Book Week-Year 6 Author Visit

Year 6 went on a visit to Ruthin Library, in order to meet with the auth​or Chris d'Lacy who is famous for his 'Fire' series of dragon books. Mr d'Lacy gave a fascinating and very entertaining presentation about how he became an author and the ideas that sparked his stories. The pupils and (and staff) were 


Peer Reading

The Year 6 pupils have gained some lovely experiences in helping the younger pupils in paired reading sessions.

The younger pupils have also benefited from reading to the older 'role-models.'


Summer Reading Challenge

Llinos Davies of the Library service attended, to speak to the children about this Summer’s Reading Challenge.  The children seemed very eager to take part and I certainly am hoping that they will do  so too!  Each year, a large amount of Rhos Street pupils are awarded medals in the Autumn for their efforts and I very much hope that this is the case once again this time around.


Year 6 Poetry Work

Year 6 have been hard at work writing some humorous poetry and some fantastic examples were to be seen.  Check back here soon and you will be able to download a collection sharing the fruits of their labour.​
